Music is Everywhere

16/01/2015

Released on New Years Day, a lot has been written about Birdman. From Alejandro González Iñárritu’s incredible camera work in immersing an audience into it’s world, to the amusing parallels with Michael Keaton’s post-Batman career.

Amongst a lot of great things in this movie, the musical score has to be the stand out. The initial trailer hinted at it, but the full feature reveals it’s true potential as Antonio Sanchez’s jazz drums provide a rhythmic beat to the film.

There’s no better example of this than in the films opening credits. As each actors name appears on screen, Sanchez’s drum beats away each character in a random, non sensical order. This continues throughout the film, complimenting Keaton’s movements and state of mind to great effect. It’s clever, it’s unique and it suits the film perfectly. We can’t recommend Birdman enough.
